Відкриття подвійної спіралі ДНК або революція, що започаткувала еру молекулярної біології (Нобелівська премія 1962 р.)

50-ті роки минулого сторіччя відзначились революційними відкриттями у галузі дослідження структури ДНК. Хронологія присудження Нобелівської премії вченим – авторам цих відкриттів, не завжди збігається із хронологією оприлюднення результатів їхніх досліджень. Дж. Вотсон і Ф. Крік опублікували у «Nature» свою невеличку статтю про відкриття структури ДНК, яка сколихнула нау­ковий світ, у 1953 році, а отримали Нобелівську премію разом з М. Вілкінсом лише через 9 років. Відкриття хімічної структури ДНК визнано одним з найвидатніших біологічних відкриттів ХХ сторіччя. Завдяки історичним науковим досягненням цих вчених почався розвиток нового напряму природничих наук – молекулярної біології.
